Job Title: Network Analyst Reports to: Technology Director Dept./School: Information Technology
Primary Purpose:
Administer and operate the district's central administrative computer networks. Develop, maintain, and monitor all district local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN). Responsible for installation, testing, maintaining security of stored information, and oversight of all network hardware, personal computers, software, and related equipment.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification: • High School diploma or equivalent required. • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in network administration preferred. Special Knowledge/Skills: • Knowledge of LAN and WAN network design and installation • Ability to design and coordinate the installation of data networks. • Ability to maintain and troubleshoot computer network hardware, software, and peripherals. • Ability to determine computer problems and coordinate hardware and/or software solutions. Ability to develop systems solutions for operational problems. • Ability to learn and support new network components. • Knowledge of Domain Controllers, DHCP, DNS, virtualization administration, and imaging administration and maintenance of these appliances. • Knowledge of network hardware, including switches, routers, and fiber optics, as well as various appliances and software applications including network servers, printers, and other equipment • Ability to work with multiple operating systems and network protocols (i.e., WINDOWS, UNIX, MS-DOS, and MAC-OS) • Ability to analyze and resolve computer network problems • Plan, test, recommend, and implement network, file server, mainframe, and workstation hardware and software. • Provide network documentation, training, and guidance to a computing system clients and programmers. Fort Stockton ISD Network Manager Rev. 06-2011 • Serve as a technical specialist in network problems and emergencies. Troubleshoot and resolve network production problems. • Work with the Technology Director to conduct technical research on network upgrades and components to determine feasibility, cost, time required, and compatibility with the current system. • Recommend network solutions for short-, medium-, and long-range network projects. • Install, configure, and maintain network components. • Determine plan layout for new hardware or modifications to existing layout. • Install, upgrade, and configure network printing. • Work closely with Systems Analyst to configure and upgrade directory structures, user access, security, software, and file services. • Work with vendors to resolve complex network problems. • Maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored, or accessed by the network. • Document network problems and resolutions for future reference. • Other duties as assigned. • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills • Responsibilities may require evening and weekend work in response to the needs of the systems being supported.
Experience: Two years of experience performing network maintenance.
Major Responsibilities and Duties: • Identify and resolve network hardware and software problems. • Install and test network hardware, software, and upgrades. • Perform routine preventive maintenance on hardware. • Implement and maintain all system configurations. • Coordinate and monitor system utilization; recommend improvements as needed. • Maintenance and monitoring of active network gear: switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points, etc. • Responsible for district imaging, both creation and deployment of images of standard district hardware and software. Strong knowledge of Altiris Deployment and Notification Server software is preferred. • Responsible for district virtual networks. Strong knowledge of VMWare is preferred. • Responsible for configuring, securing, and maintaining the district wireless network
Network Security • Develop and implement a district-wide security system for all systems; ensure network security by maintaining network, Internet, anti-virus server, content filter Fort Stockton ISD Network Manager Rev. os-2011 appliance, packet shaper appliance, E-mail server, and Blade Server including VMWare, SAN, and any other server/appliance. Working with ESC to secure any VNC Tunnels into the district. • Design and implement backup procedures to ensure that backup of all networks and workstations are performed on a regular basis. • Oversee disk backups and restore district data as needed. • Assist with the development and implementation of a disaster recovery plan.
Technical Support • Serve as liaison to software and hardware vendors to maintain appropriate product support. • Maintain network design and configuration documentation. • Provide assistance to end users to identify and correct equipment and software related problems. • Oversee the District Help Desk system and supervise district technical repairs for end-users.
Other • Identify and recommend the acquisition of software and hardware to meet the automation and networking needs of district staff. • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required. • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy. • Maintain current knowledge of network/computer technologies. • Assist personnel of other departments as a technical resource • Oversee the installation of hardware and software as it pertains to district networks • Supervise computer technicians to ensure technical repairs are organized and timely for end-users.
